when people in shivering isles say shades of madness , what do this mean ? well , in simple form this refer to mania and dementia , which both carry unique types of madness . some people have addictive , artistic , boisterous mania-type madness , and others have paranoid , depressive , violent dementia-type madness . but ... well ... that is oversimplification of truth , and no one better to demonstrate this than sheogorath .

sheogorath is all madness , and able to express all madness . just for some examples :

sometimes thoughts clear and focus , at other times , muddy and hard to reach .
sometimes thoughts move too fast to follow , too slow to bother , or nice middle in between .
sometimes see and hear things which others do not , sometimes oblivious to information others pick up , and sometimes neither at all .
sometimes impulsive and hard to hold back , bless that poor chamberlain haskill , sometimes left completely lethargic and apathetic , and sometimes able to think through plans sensibly .
sometimes able to work within bounds of language , sometimes lose grip entirely .

and so on can this list go . for every mechanism of cognition , sheogorath can have any number of quirks , these shades of madness . this is one part of why sheogorath can be so vastly different between appearances - able to flip this way and that , with or without reason .
each child of sheogorath - each madman - can then share in any of these traits , though of course not with sheogorath's daedric fluidity . in these traits and feelings , then , do each one feel calling to either mania or dementia . bear in mind these lands do not cause or even represent traits of madness directly , only set scene for indulgences and comforts alike .

Back to Coachella and listening to techno artists. Great set if you like the genre, but wow, the either organizers or YT need to include a flashing lights warning.

Be careful watching techno shows on screens if you have any photosensitivity issues. Those strobe lights are working over time.

As previously mentioned, my current read is pop fiction classic, Scruples by Judith Krantz.

I love how deep and immersive even popular fiction was before the internet era.

There was a time when writing and reading novels meant deep dives into an author’s researched interest. This depth of knowledge meant more in the pre-internet days. In the case of Scruples it’s a look at the fashion industry in Paris in the 1960s.

There’s a passage about how fashion focused on the fit and fabrics, and I’m thinking a.) how that’s quite the difference from today’s fast fashion, and b.) how “fit” has come back into slang, as if the collective unconscious recognizes the difference.

From a writing perspective, I love flashbacks because they re-train my brain away from social media influenced demand for ten second soundbites to again develop the concentration needed for a sustained narrative.

Went back to the Coachella livestream last night to watch Missy and Lady Gaga. Wonderful performances from both. Gaga’s set came on after 11, so it ended up being a late night. Worth it, though.

With Lady Gaga’s show, I paid more attention to her band and dancers and they were excellent. Total respect to the talent and effort it takes to put on a show of this size.

Had to get out and walk or my back would freeze up.

While browsing through items at a store, I had this thought about the waning of celebrity culture:

What if celebrity culture is now ending because it’s up to us to create our own consciousness?

What if celebrities existed to act as guides for a collective culture (pop culture) that has now served its purpose and not needed as much?

What if it’s all about stages of consciousness?

internet is wonderful in many ways , but wow , sometimes almost feel like too much ? in that , there is so much art and music to come across , so so so very much , that often can not give everything proper attention and appreciation .
and even when kossai really try , comments honestly so hard to make ... to say things that make sense , to say things that will be polite ( not everyone appreciate " need to fucking eat this ! " ) to say things relevant and unique . like nothing inherently wrong with little " love this " comments , but know people appreciate audience pay attention to detail . and just . so much to love , sometimes hard to show that love .

and then after share / save / etc , will eventually scroll past , right into another , like that one was nothing special . like , glad to curate space where overwhelm with good things , but overwhelm is still overwhelm !

Another walk about picture.

I think this is an oak tree. For whatever reason, it hasn’t put out too many leaves yet. Still, the branches make a good pattern against the clouds.

Wonderfully cool and cloudy this week. Supposed to have some rain today but didn’t really happen.

Think some of my gloom is due to my back injury flaring up again. Ugh. Probably because of the walk to the grocery store.

Just when I think I’m in the all clear, the little pain gremlins go ha ha nope.
