It was a beautiful day. I've been having issues with intense fatigue, so I could only do a short walk. The spring vibes are really strong and more things bloom every day, everything is growing at incredible speeds.

It was a mild early spring day. There was an earthy scent in the air reminiscent of petrichor, although it hasn't rained in while now. There were many far away deer in the fields.

Return of the Snow

Thursday, February 13th, 2025 11:12 pm

We got some light snow last night and some more throughout the day. The ground wasn't fully frozen, but there was a very cold wind.

It was a frosty, clear day. I went on my walk past sunset.

hoarfrost on a patch of grass

hoarfrost on a small piece of old wood laying in the grass, highlighting its grain

hoarfrost on some dried grass on the ground

some old wood logs with various types of fungal growth on them, and some lichen

post sunset sky over the light green field and trees by the edge of it. the clear sky is blue, yellow and orange with a hint of pink

post sunset sky, a dark blue to peach/orange gradient with a pinkish tint

The cow boys were all there, on the close side of the stream.

low light shot of three boys who are cows, from left to right Fernando, Walt, Mew. the are standing under a wild looking tree and looking up at me.

A pro tip for photographing cows: if you want them to lift their head and look at you for a photo, try singing or humming to them. Here's Bambi, listening to me humming "Die Gedanken sind frei". Cows love a classic antifascist tune.

a cow boy named Bambi, standing in the post sunset glow, side view, looking at me with his ears perked up.

The bright spot in the sky is the planet Venus.

a cluster of tree silhouettes against the evening sky. there are some larger oak trees and smaller more gnarly looking ones. the sky is dark blue, and pale peach and yellow coloured above the horizon. there is a single point of light in the sky next to an oak tree.

the large trees by the side of the fields seen from a distance, in the last light past sunset. the sky is even darker than the previous shot, and the light point that is the planet Venus is more visible.

I stayed out for way after dark, looking at the stars and planets, trying to memorize constellations.

The sky was suddenly clear today, to my surprise and joy. The weather was beautiful, just above freezing, with almost no wind.

the sunset as seen from behind the bare willow bush in my garden. the swingset with the slide and basketball hoot is visible, as well as a bit of the garden house. the sun is lighting up the willow branches.

slightly misaligned HDR shot of the sunset over the field, distant storage buildings to the left and distant power lines to the right. the sky is clear.

sunset over the field with a bit of young green growth on it. the sky is a gradient from blueish to yellow-orange at the horizon. there is some haze in the distance.

close up of a dry little plant with the sunset in the background, light pink and orange tones.

another HDR shot of the green field, and distant trees with the sun setting behind them.

close up of a group of small light brown mushrooms in the grass

I walked through the apple orchard and into the fields. The moon was getting brighter and more beautiful the longer I walked.

the moon rising over the orchards, framed by wild looking apple tree branches. the dark thicket in the background is the plum orchard. the moon is almost full.

post sunset sky behind large bare trees by the edge of the field. the sky is a gradient of dark greyish blue to orange at the horizon.

the moon standing right above a small group of trees inbetween the fields that are aligned behind each other to appear as one tree. the post sunset sky is pastel pink and blueish. there are wind turbines in the distance.

the sky quite a while after sunset, against the dark silhouettes of wild looking bare trees of the apple orchard. it is a deep blue gradient with some pinkish tones and a peach colour near the horizon.

I stayed out until dark.

Gloom (Continued)

It was another grey gloomy soggy day, just like the last couple days have been. I went to see the cow boys. They were there, but too far away for a nice photo.

chickweed growing among dark decaying fallen leaves. it is a bright green little plant with heart shaped leaves.

tall almost bare trees by the side of a stream, with a cow path underneath. the weather is gloomy.

some more old trees by the stream side

some fallen leaves, mostly willow, that have collected in a crevice of a moss covered piece of wood

decaying wood of an old willow tree. a lot of the bark is gone. there are insect holes in the wood and it has striking dark patterns

I miss seeing the sun, but there's always trees to look at.

It was a grey, gloomy, soggy day. Well, as always, I gotta go on a walk.

little fuzzy tan mushrooms growing out of a moss covered log. they look like little clam shells.

decomposing bark of an old plum tree, with a lot of the outer layer missing and evidence of bug activity

vibrant green moss growing on an old tree trunk

bark on the trunk of a large oak tree. there is moss and lichen growing on it, creating reddish and green tones.

wild rose hips by the edge of a field, close up of 2 bright red fruit

I went out into the fields. It is now the season to find animal tracks in the mud. These are badger tracks. I also saw deer tracks and the actual far away deer to match them.

3 footprints of a badger in the mud, they have 5 toes and large claws

a very old very large willow tree by the edge of the field. it has several large trunks and looks very wild.

a green field on a gloomy day. it is overgrown with plants low on the ground, probably a type of Phacelia. there are powerlines in the distance. the sky is just grey.

the little stream, seen from above. there is a lot of foliage around it, some of it is colourful, green, red and yellow

some little light brown stemless mushrooms growing on a decaying branch.

the soggy wet bark of a large tree. there is a lot of small star-shaped moss growing on it and some little patches of bright yellow-green lichen.

remnants of dried tan seedheads of some plant, the shape is similar to fireworks

There has been much to see today.

Dry Textures

It was a not too cold day, with some light rain from time to time. I went outside briefly around sunset. It is starting to really feel like winter despite the temperatures, just because so many plants are dried up and the trees have dropped almost all their leaves now.

cloudy dark grey evening sky over the fields and distant agricultural storage shacks, only a sliver of pale yellow light breaking through the clouds near the horizon

the bark of an old birch tree. the white outer part is torn up a bit and overgrown with a thin greenish layer of algae or lichen. there are also dark and reddish tones and many textures

November Fog

It was a wonderfully foggy day. The vibes outside were perfect.

a large oak tree in the fog

fog in the plum orchard, the trees are looking wild and gnarly

a foggy view of the wild wetland area near the stream, with fallen trees in the foreground

close up of some textured old wood, the trunk is without bark, it is various shades of brown and tan and looks damp

a row of trees between the fields along the stream, they are vanishing into the fog in the distance

All sounds seemed subdued out in the fields, only the crows came through with their loud and moody calls.

a tree between the fields, in the fog

another tree between the fields, in the fog. it has an eye that is looking at us.

the edge of a field with various trees, shrouded by fog as they fade into the distance

a spindle bush with a lot of dark pink fruit on it

a view of a pasture, with a small tree and a fence in the middle and larger trees pale behind distant fog

looking up at layers of increasingly faded large oak tree branches that appear dark and colourless against the white sky, they still have some leaves that are equally dark.

some large willow trees in the low light fog, with faded orange and grey-green autumn leaves on them

a large oak tree with a tiny linden tree in front, whose bright yellow-orange leaves are contrasting with the dark oak trunks

On my way back, I pulled these carrots from my garden. I did not have a lot of luck with them this year, very few of the plants survived the slug parades. I shall try again next year.

Two Walkie Day

Housekeeping note: I've been having some difficulty putting up these posts lately, due to me being busy and also my recent tendency of taking a large number of photos every day. The most effort intensive part, unfortunately, is writing alt text for all of them. I really hate to compromise on an accessibility feature that I believe is important. But if I don't do that sometimes, then the posts won't go up at all. I am still doing my best to write useful alt text whenever I am able to, which is likely going to be on the majority of my posts. Otherwise the posts, such as this one, will be tagged with #alttextmissing.

If you would like to volunteer to help me write alt text from time to time, please contact me in the comments of this post or via my discord server. The discord server is also where I post my photos daily as soon as I finish editing them, so they're on there faster and more reliably than here.

I went on a little trip today with my family. We visited a castle and had a short walk in the park there.

Autumn Sun

halcyon_garden: (autumn)
I finally managed to go on my walk a little earlier, as in, before sunset. I went out to the fields. It was a bit chillier than the previous days, and a little windy too.

a field with many young sprouts of some sort of grain plant, they are bright green and backlit by the low standing sun

tansy inflorescence in the evening sun, with many yellow button-shaped flowers

the edge of a field in the evening sun, the field is covered in a thin layer of green. the shot is framed by trees on both sides and there are distant powerlines under the mostly clear sky.

I went to the secret spot, where the leaves looked like melting gold in the evening light.

a small wooded area between fields, with golden and orange autumn leaves backlit by the sunset light

leafy autumn coloured oak branches backlit by the setting sun

After sunset, I went a bit further into that strip of woodland between the fields. I found a fairy ring of parasol mushrooms, which I left undisturbed.

a parasol mushroom growing between fallen leaves, with some leaves resting on top of its flat tan coloured cap

a small young parasol mushroom with a rounded cap among colourful fallen autumn leaves

By the time I returned home, the light was almost entirely gone.

Here are today's pics. It was a mostly sunny, mild day.

dark green ivy and reddish wild grapevines growing on a wall, covering it

a group of boys who are cows grazing on their pasture in front of some autumn trees and a house

post sunset sky over the fallow field and distant powerlines. the sky is partially cloudy, the clouds are streaky, some are lit deep pink, some are dark

The following are yesterday's pics.

yellow filled flowers of a japanese kerria bush against the dark background of another bush. the kerria's leaves are also starting to turn yellow

wild looking apple trees in the orchard. they have dropped some of their leaves.

gnarly dense dark trees in the plum orchard, with yellow leaves on them and a lot of fallen leaves on the ground inbetween them

another shot of the autumn plum orchard

many small tan polypore type mushrooms growing on an old dark log.

small tan and brown turkey tail type mushrooms growing on a mossy log, some other brown mushrooms are blurry in the background

my pet bunny Haru eating leaves off some twigs I collected for them. he is big and fluffy with huge fuzzy ears and very cute

Autumn Secrets

Another absolutely beautiful day. I went on a walk to the Secret spot.

a beech tree branch with a lot of golden and orange autumn leaves on it in the evening light

a group of trees against the orange sunset light. the leaves are colourful, partly green and partly yellow.

a big tall tree with multiple trunks on the side of a small stream. the leaves have autumn colours and the ground is covered in fallen leaves.

The ground at the Secret spot was absolutely overgrown with these mushrooms. It was hard to find spots to place my feet without stepping on them.

forest floor of a small wooded area, it is covered in fallen leaves and a lot of brown mushrooms, with some small plants growing that are still green.

a group of brown flat-capped mushrooms on the ground among fallen leaves and grass

a cluster of brown mushrooms growing on the side of a tree trunk in low light

I love the way this area looks in the evening light.

wild looking ground cover plants in a small wooded area. the leaves are green and red and some are being hit with the last remaining evening light, creating dramatic contrast.

clusters of yellow-brown mushrooms growing by the side of a tree trunk

some tall autumn coloured trees in the evening light

I saw the 4 far away deer again (not pictured), and a perfect sunset.

a scene by the grassy edge of an empty field just after sunset. the shot is framed with a dark willow tree on the left and a colourful red-orange leafy tree to the right. the sky is a pastel gradient of blue, peach and yellow.

the post sunset sky over the empty field. there are distant powerlines and some thin wispy clouds across the gradient sky.
