I looked at the stars for a bit today. Here are some pictures I took of constellations. If anything is too small to see, you can open the image in a new tab to view it at full size.

The sky was very clear today and it was cold. I looked at the sky for a bit.

The recent couple days have been cloudy, so I couldn't look at the planets and stars much.

Eternal Stars

The weather is still unchanged, around freezing and with very clear skies. Again I looked at the evening sky for as long as I could stand the cold. This time I tried taking more pictures of the stars. Handheld phone cam pictures will never be great astrophotography, but I'm pleased by how much does show up in these shots. I added screenshots from the free online app Stellarium for comparison, so it's easier to see the constellations.

More Stargazing

I went outside past sunset, when it was already kinda dark, and watched the planets and stars gradually appearing in the sky. I should probably mention that I'm in central Europe, so any stuff I'm writing here about the night sky applies to that location's winter sky.

It was a clear, lightly frosty day just like the past couple days have been. I went for my walk after sunset.

Light Snow

It snowed a little bit. I started putting out bird food on the windowsill again finally.

view of the village with a light dusting of snow on everything. the sky is blue with a lot of fluffy white clouds

These are kitty cat pawprints from a feral cat.

a thin layer of snow on the ground with some fresh cat paw prints

sky over the field in the early evening. it is partially covered in dark clouds and partially clear. the waxing crescent moon is visible and directly above it the planet Venus

pasture, fences and fields with a little bit of snow under cloudy skies, post sunset

January Evening

I didn't have much energy today. I went on a short walk past sunset.

two boys who are cows standing underneath some trees and scratching their backs against the lowest branches

The cow boys were all there. They were quiet and moved very slowly.

a cow boy named Peanut Butter, full body side view, his thick winter fur is damp and curly in some spots

the evening sky behind bare apple tree branches. it is mostly clear, blueish grey, with some small faint clouds

evening sky over the field, with large trees on the side. there are clouds near the horizon. the waxing crescent moon is visible, as well as the planet Venus

It was another very beautiful clear and frosty day.

the sky just after sunset. it's a gradient from blue to orange, with a bunch of brightly lit contrails cutting across it

hoarfrost on the ground, the ice crystals coating fallen oak leaves, grasses and moss

deer hill in the evening, it's a small hill among the fields with some trees and shrubs on top

silhouettes of bare trees between the fields against the post sunset sky that is blue, pink, yellow and orange, and distant powerlines

close up of a frozen puddle with air bubbles underneath the ice, lit warmly by the post sunset glow

colourful post sunset sky with long contrails over the fields

The sky is so large in the middle of the fields. It's impossible to convey in photos. Knowing which of the bright lights in the sky are the other planets of our solar system really establishes the feeling of standing on a rock that's floating through the universe.

tree silhouettes against the sky quite a while after sunset. the horizon still has a bright orange glow, while the sky above is dark blue. the planet Venus is visible in the sky.

It was a frosty, clear day. I went on my walk past sunset.

hoarfrost on a patch of grass

hoarfrost on a small piece of old wood laying in the grass, highlighting its grain

hoarfrost on some dried grass on the ground

some old wood logs with various types of fungal growth on them, and some lichen

post sunset sky over the light green field and trees by the edge of it. the clear sky is blue, yellow and orange with a hint of pink

post sunset sky, a dark blue to peach/orange gradient with a pinkish tint

The cow boys were all there, on the close side of the stream.

low light shot of three boys who are cows, from left to right Fernando, Walt, Mew. the are standing under a wild looking tree and looking up at me.

A pro tip for photographing cows: if you want them to lift their head and look at you for a photo, try singing or humming to them. Here's Bambi, listening to me humming "Die Gedanken sind frei". Cows love a classic antifascist tune.

a cow boy named Bambi, standing in the post sunset glow, side view, looking at me with his ears perked up.

The bright spot in the sky is the planet Venus.

a cluster of tree silhouettes against the evening sky. there are some larger oak trees and smaller more gnarly looking ones. the sky is dark blue, and pale peach and yellow coloured above the horizon. there is a single point of light in the sky next to an oak tree.

the large trees by the side of the fields seen from a distance, in the last light past sunset. the sky is even darker than the previous shot, and the light point that is the planet Venus is more visible.

I stayed out for way after dark, looking at the stars and planets, trying to memorize constellations.

It was a beautiful winter day with an incredible sunset.

the wooden entrance gateway to my garden in the evening light. there are large bare cherry tree trunks and branches overhead. the sky is light pastel blue and peach coloured

sunset over the light green field. the sky has some light wispy transparent clouds thinly covering large parts of it, and is a gradient from light blue to yellow and peach/orange. there is mist in the distance.

a large tree, I think an oak, bare and silhouetted against the warm coloured sunset sky, with some houses and smaller trees in the background

a small group of young trees in a meadow next to the fields, mostly birch and spruce. the sky is colourful behind them.

a tiny pond in the meadow between the young trees, with very little icy water in it.

sunset over the path between the fields. there are intensely pink and peach coloured clouds, and some yellow.

The light in the sky in the below picture is probably a planet, I didn't check but I think Jupiter?

the view of the sky on the opposite side of the sunset. there are some distant wind turbines with red lights on them, wispy pinkish clouds in the dark blue sky, and a single light dot.

post sunset sky over the fields, distant tree line and powerlines. the sky is a gradient of dark blue to yellow and peach.
